People Managers
Confident People Manager
Lead. Coach. Manage.

Experienced people managers strengthening how they lead, coach and manage, so they can lead their teams through uncertainty and change with greater confidence.
The challenge
Our client brought together a group of experienced people managers, each with three or more years of leading others. These weren't new managers learning the basics. They knew their teams, they knew the business and they had already earned the trust of the people around them.
What they were looking for was the next level. Each of them wanted to strengthen their people leadership skills, strengthen their impact and lead their team with even greater confidence through a period of uncertainty and change.
Change puts pressure on the parts of management that are easiest to put off. Coaching gets squeezed by delivery. Feedback gets softened or saved for later. Performance conversations become a box to tick rather than a chance to grow someone. The habits that work in a steady state start to show their limits when a team needs clarity, direction and confidence from the person leading it.
The brief was not to fix anything broken. It was to take capable managers and help them lead, coach and manage at a consistently higher level - with the clarity and confidence to bring their teams with them.
What united them all was the privilege of managing others.
“This programme will genuinely change how I show up every day as a people manager”
Our approach
TLH designed a four-month leadership programme that blended immersive face-to-face experiences, virtual learning and practical application in the workplace.
The programme was structured across three phases. Each phase built on the one before, so that ideas explored in the room were tested back at work, reflected on and then taken further. Expert facilitation set the direction, while reflection and peer learning gave the managers space to learn from each other's experience - often the most valuable resource in the room for a group this experienced.
The emphasis throughout was on real-world application. Rather than learning in the abstract, participants worked on the conversations, decisions and team challenges they were facing at the time, so new behaviours were practised where they mattered and had the best chance of becoming habit.
Coaching, feedback and performance conversations sat at the centre of the work. These are the moments where a manager's influence is felt most directly, and where small changes in approach make the biggest difference to how people perform and how they feel about their work.
Throughout the programme, participants developed the confidence and capability to:
- Lead, coach and manage with greater clarity and consistency.
- Hold confident, productive conversations that strengthen relationships and performance.
- Give feedback that builds confidence, accountability and growth.
- Deliver meaningful performance reviews and conversations.
- Create a clear team vision, values with ways of working that inspire high performance.
- Develop talent and capability at a team and organisational level.
Spreading the programme over four months mattered. It gave each manager time to try new approaches with their own teams, notice what changed and come back to the group with real examples to build on.

- 4Months
- 6Core capabilities
- 25People Managers
The outcome
The programme helped the people managers to confidently lead, coach and manage their people and team.
They left better equipped to build a high-performing team, lead people through uncertainty and create a lasting impact on the people around them. Conversations that might once have been postponed became part of how they managed every week. Feedback became something they gave with confidence, and something their teams could use.
Just as importantly, the managers left with a clearer sense of what kind of leader they wanted to be for their team - and a shared language with their peers for the challenges that come with the role.
Together, we helped them challenge old habits, build new capabilities and leave with the confidence, clarity and practical tools to lead people at an even higher level.
- More confident coaching
- Confident conversations and feedback that build performance
- Teams led through uncertainty with a clear vision
